CLEAR and C.S. Mott Center host high school students tour for Great Lakes Bioneers conference

On Thursday, October 17, CLEAR hosted a tour of our research facilities at the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development for the 2024 Great Lakes Bioneers conference, organized by the University of Detroit Mercy.

Thirty-five students from local high schools attended the CLEAR tour, along with other conference attendees. The tour showcased research goals, personnel and equipment used by Project 4 (Placental Mammal Model), led by Dr. Gil Mor, which uses mice models to examine the links between volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and maternal health.

Participants were able to tour four stations at the center, which all focused on different aspects of the research. CLEAR trainees gave short presentations about their work, the instruments they use in their lab, and how they look at and interpret data for experimental results. Postdoc and PhD trainees also took the time to share career advice with the students, and offered information on programs they could get lab experience through prior to graduating from high school. There was also a poster session, where trainees displayed their latest research outcomes for tour members to view and ask questions.
